Come join us for our next networking and training opportunity on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at The Radisson Hotel Roseville.  We're looking forward to exciting presentations from Lee Atakpu and Patrick McCarthy with the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office and Rachel Williams with the US Postal Inspection Service.  Attendees of this quarterly training session will receive three hours of fraud related, non-NASBA CPE and MN POST credits, and it also includes a full breakfast buffet.


Presenters

Patrick McCarthy is a former investigator and current prosecutor in the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.  Lee Atakpu has worked as an Assistant Ramsey County for six years and is currently a Financial Crimes Prosecutor. Lee’s caseload within the Ramsey County Financial Crimes Unit focuses on offenses such as Theft by Swindle, Financial Exploitation, Identity Theft and Wrongfully Obtaining Public Benefits. Lee graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Political Science and moved to Washington D.C., where he worked on Capitol Hill and attended Law School at American University, Washington College of Law.

Session 1: Child Care Facilities Frauds

Mr. Atakpu and Mr. McCarthy will discuss the investigation and prosecution of a four codefendant Theft by Swindle/RICO fraud case and try to give some context to the current conversation.  This case, and other cases like it, have been getting some publicity lately as it is related to Child Care facilities defrauding DHS.

Rachel Williams has been a U.S. Postal Inspector for 16 years conducting investigations involving identity theft, mortgage fraud, investment fraud/schemes, Ponzi schemes, lottery/advance fee scams, internet/eBay/Paypal fraud, child exploitation, mail theft, prohibited mailings and other financial crimes. Inspector Williams is currently assigned to the Mail Fraud Team for the State of Minnesota & Western Wisconsin and is also the Public Information Officer for Minnesota and North Dakota.

Session 2: Providence Financial Investments Fraud

Ms. Williams will discuss the Providence Financial Investments fraud case, a large, international fraud that originated in Minnesota.
